Today’s transmission is controlled by a multitude of sensors and controller’s. Many transmission-related problems are caused by these non-transmission related components. Here is a brief list of the most common control components, and the various problems they cause when they fail, actually varies for each manufacture. This is a limited list and your vehicle may contain several sensors, switches, and modules not even listed. The Throttle Position Sensor, The Mass Air Flow Sensor, The Idle Air Control Sensor, The Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor, The Engine Control Module, The Powertrain control module, The Body Control Module, The Anti-Lock Brakes Pump and Control Module, The Traction Control Module, The Theft Deterrent Module, Vehicle Speed Sensors, and the transmission Range sensor. These are just a few of the most common sensors, switches, and modules, and they do not take into account any broken wires or open or shorted to ground connections. Confusing? Yes, it is so is that glitch really a transmission failure or an adjustment.
